Darkness Within

Appletart Longshot my seem like a kind and caring mare but deep inside her lies a darkness that every so often surfaces.

As a filly she bore witness to her entire Stable's demise and her mother's by a group of Raiders. This sowed the seed into her heart for which began to blossom into a deep dark hatred for them. As the years passed during her time in the Pondale Rangers this hate grew. She slowly began to distrust and despise what the Rangers stood for and what they were doing, further adding to her darkness. As this hate grew, her anger followed. She found herself getting angry much faster than usual until one day she felt a tingle in her eyes and horn. When she looked at herself in a mirror what greeted her was the sight of her eyes glowing green with red slit like pupils with flames of purple magic coming out of the edges of her eyes and her horn's magical aura had turned purple with bubbling blackness. She described this to a Scribe, telling her she was just curious, and the Scribe told her that it was Dark Magic. When a pony is filled with so much hate or anger they take on a shift that gives them those traits. The Scribe however didn't tell her of any way to get rid of it. So, for fifteen years this hate and anger festered and grew in her heart.

Appletart's friends are aware of this darkness as they have witnessed her change from normal to dark magic. She has also embraced this darkness, letting it take old when Raiders are involved. A part of her likes the darkness because of what it adds. When the hate and anger is in control, like when up against Raiders, her dark emotions such as her hate and anger fuel her magic, giving her a twenty percent increase in magical strength that only lasts until either she's used up her magical supply or she calms down.

This picture is close to an illustration of her state during her fight with a pack of Wretches. She received puncture wounds to her neck on both sides, her left cheek getting slashed and her right eye gets slashed. Her regeneration talisman fixed her eye but left her with scars on her neck and face.
